Wax (a mixture of 20% Microcrystalline wax and 80% Paraffin Wax) is one of the best materials to use to protect wooden ware. This mixture raises the “Flashpoint” of the mixture to over 400 degrees Fahrenheit which provides us an extra margin of safety when we are heating the mixture to 300 degrees for wax dipping. Each year volunteers have the opportunity to have new bee keeping equipment dipped, for an excellent seal against the elements.
